Journalistic article: Independent ACT Senate Candidate David Pocock backs the AFP

Independent ACT Senate candidate David Pocock has announced his support of the AFP Association’s requests for legislative change and initiative funding.

Mr Pocock’s supported AFPA initiatives include a workforce expansion of 10% by 2025, introducing a ‘Blue Card’ providing members access to mental health services, firearm reforms, and increasing payrates.

Mr Pocock said the AFP is an important local service that should get as much support as the ADF.

“[Police presence] is an issue that’s been raised by the community and it’s something that should be made a priority,” he said.

“They’re in there to genuinely serve their community. I think after they’ve done that, we need to support them with things like mental health.”

Mr Pocock also supports the construction of a new state-of-the-art training facility in Majura on AFP-owned land.

“I think this is a good thing for Canberra and the community in terms of policing,” he said.
